Bromeliads in habitat - Photos from Ecuador

Finally I have put some of my bromeliad pictures online, which I took during my 2001/2002 journey to Ecuador. Some identification issues still require clarification (with your help I hope!), so please use any informations at your own risk! If you find any errors on this page, please inform me and I will correct them. In addition to bromeliads, there are some cacti as well as a Brassia orchid.

Some of the plants like Vriesea andreettae are pretty rare and pictures are not otherwise available on the Internet, to my knowledge.

The pictures are scans made from paper prints of slides. Therefore the quality is often disappointing. I apoligize for that.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy!

South of Cuenca

The following grow in the valley of the Rio Jubones, at an elevation of about 1000m. There is a big, grey tank Tillandsia all over the place, which is probably either T. lymanii, T. marnier-lapostollei or T. macrodactylon. In the decriptions below it is labelled as UNIDENDIFIED.

Higher up in the mountains (much moister habitat) This is a cloud forest. It was hard to take pictures due to the clouds, particularly for Vr. andreettae, where I could not get close enough as they are growing high on a rock. Due to the clouds even a telephoto lens didn't help much...
Vriesea andreettae (for uncle Derek!)

TWO UNKNOWN T.'s
What are these two unknowns? One could be within the variability of T. latifoloa though the leaves appear to be different. The other could be Vr. cylindrica.
